Apple Cider Vinegar Diet: What Is It Really?
The Apple Cider Vinegar Diet is in itself not really a diet plan. It’s the simple act of consuming cider vinegar before each meal in an effort to promote its natural fat burning properties. The diet suggests drinking two to three teaspoons of undiluted apple cider directly prior to eating.
Apple Cider Vinegar is vinegar made from apples that are fermented into cider. It is amber in color and may be sold unfiltered and unpasteurized as a natural product or can be purchased distilled in your neighborhood grocery. It is highly acidic and sour to the taste and and may be harsh or burning to the throat when ingested.
The benefits of apple cider vinegar have been well known and widely published since the 1950’s when a Vermont doctor, D.C. Jarvis wrote a book entitled Folk Medicine detailing it’s weight loss properties. Jarvis stated that regular consumption of the product would cause fat to be to be burned rather than stored. He goes on to suggest its role in lowering cholesterol.
For years home remedies have told us that daily consumption of apple cider vinegar can promote healthy digestive and urinary function. It’s been use in folk remedies to aid in the treatment of constipation and urinary tract infections. Vinegar is considered to assist greatly in flushing the body of toxins and help the rid the body of excess fluids.
There are claims that apple cider vinegar can help with the treatment of cancer or cure diabetes. It has been used to treat migraines and muscle cramps, used to relieve the pain of menstruation, fight acne and aging, and as a natural deodorant.
Despite its natural qualities there are not conclusive studies to prove that the apple cider diet is effective in its claims at producing weight loss. However apple cider vinegar taken diluted in water or juice as a supplement may provide several health benefits as a part of a regular and balanced diet, but there really isn’t an apple cider vinegar diet in the conventional sense.
